Uwe Loesch, born in Dresden in 1943, has
lived in Düsseldorf since 1957 and now lives
in Neandertal. From 1964 to 1968 he studied
graphic design at the Peter-Behrens-Werkkunst-
schule Düsseldorf. In 1968 he founded
the studio, the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft für
visuelle und verbale Kommunikation".
His clients include publishing houses and
industrial companies, museums, trade fairs
and ministries as well as the political
cabaret, "Das Kom(m)ödchen Düsseldorf".
As part of extensive campaigns and actions,
he creates numerous posters that make
him internationally known at the beginning
of the 1980s. His works are published
and exhibited worldwide. He received numerous
first prizes at the International Poster
Biennials. From 1984 to 1988, several of his
works are on display at the Museum
of Modern Art, New York. In 1985, he was
appointed professor of cross-media design at
the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf;
from 1990 to 2008, he succeeded Willy
Fleckhaus as professor of communication
design at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal.
Uwe Loesch has been a member of the
Alliance Graphique Internationale since 1988.
In 2009, he was awarded the Gutenberg Prize
of the City of Leipzig; in 2013 in Berlin,
the Design Award of the Federal Republic
of Germany for his life's work.

Von 1964 bis 1968 studiert er an der
Peter-Behrens-Werkkunstschule Düsseldorf
Grafik Design. 1968 gründet er das Studio,
die "Arbeitsgemeinschaft für visuelle und
verbale Kommunikation". Zu seinen Auftraggebern
gehören Verlage und Industrieunternehmen,
Museen, Messen und Ministerien
sowie das politisch literarische Kabarett,
"Das Kom(m)ödchen Düsseldorf". Als Teil
umfangreicher Kampagnen und Aktionen entstehen
zahlreiche Plakate, die ihn zu Beginn
der 80er Jahre international bekannt machen.
Seine Arbeiten werden weltweit publiziert,
vielfach ausgezeichnet und ausgestellt.
Er erhielt zahlreiche erste Preise auf den
Internationalen Plakat Biennalen. Von 1984
bis 1988 sind mehrere seiner Arbeiten im
Museum of Modern Art, New York zu sehen.
1985 wird er zum Professor für medienüber-
greifende Gestaltung an die Hochschule
Düsseldorf berufen; 1990 bis 2008 lehrt er
in Nachfolge von Willy Fleckhaus an der
Bergischen Universität Wuppertal Kommunika-
tionsdesign. Uwe Loesch ist seit 1988
Mitglied der Alliance Graphique Internationale.
2009 wird ihm der Gutenberg Preis der Stadt
Leipzig verliehen; 2013 in Berlin der Designpreis
der Bundesrepublik Deutschland für
sein Lebenswerk.
